THE FASTING DOCTOR VISITS THE HEALTH INVESTMENT PODCAST

I was recently a guest on the Health Investment Podcast with Brooke Simonson! Brooke and I had a wonderful conversation that covered a range of different topics:

I shared my story and background and how I got introduced to intermittent fasting.

I shared my personal definition of intermittent fasting means. For those who are curious, the definition of intermittent is a gut rest period without food or caloric consumption — basically, if you aren’t consuming anything but water, then you are fasting.

I highlighted some of the benefits of fasting. Some of these benefits that we discussed can include:

  • Improves insulin sensitivity
  • Lowering blood pressure
  • Improved gut health
  • Tap into autophagy

I shared my current fasting schedule with Brooke, which has changed considerably since I gave birth to my son and continue to nurse him.

We spoke extensively on the subject of fasting for women; particularly during their menstrual cycle, when they pre-pregnant, pregnant, and post-pregnant. We also briefly covered fasting for men.

I mentioned some popular fasting myths and explained whether or not I felt that they were true. Some of the myths that we discussed included:

  • Women can’t fast because it will cause menstrual cycle irregularities.
  • Weight just fall off when you start fasting.
  • Fasting is the same as starvation.
  • I can eat whatever I want when I intermittent fast.

I talked about how my interest in nutrition evolved over the years and I shared some of my own nutritional advice — my recommendation is a diet low in processed foods.

I gave some suggestions on working out while in the fasted state.

We talked a little bit about fermentation, which is one of my new favorite subjects!

Finally, I give my answer to what it means to make the health investment!!
